Statewide market research solutions from Anchorage to the Arctic — built for the unique demands of the Alaska market.

Alaska is unlike any other state to research. The population is small but extraordinarily diverse, spread across more than 200 communities — half of them off the road system. The cultural, linguistic, and demographic differences between Anchorage, the Mat-Su, the Kenai Peninsula, Southeast, the Interior, the Y-K Delta, the North Slope, and the Aleutians require methodologies that national research firms rarely have the experience or infrastructure to execute. Hays Research Group has been gathering data and producing actionable insights in this environment for more than two decades, and we know how to design, field, and report research that genuinely represents Alaskans.

What we do

We are a full-service market and public opinion research firm based in Anchorage. We design and field quantitative surveys (telephone, online, mail, and in-person intercept), recruit and moderate qualitative research (focus groups, listening sessions, in-depth interviews, mock juries, and ethnographic studies), and provide the analysis and reporting that turn raw data into decisions. Our work spans projects as small as a single twelve-person focus group in a remote community to statewide quantitative studies with sample sizes large enough to produce statistically defensible results at the regional or demographic level. Whatever the methodology, every project is built around one question: what do you actually need to know, and how do we get there with the rigor your decision deserves?

Why HRG?

Three things set HRG apart. First, the Alaska Panel — our proprietary database of 10,000+ Alaskans who have opted in to participate in paid research. The panel covers every region of the state and includes the demographic depth needed to recruit hard-to-reach segments quickly and affordably. Second, our fully equipped Anchorage focus group facility, with dial-response technology, live video streaming for remote client observation, and the capacity to host groups of up to twenty participants. Third, our field experience outside the road system — we have conducted research in nearly every community in Alaska, and we have the logistical know-how to recruit, travel, and field projects in places where most firms simply will not go.

Who we work with

Our clients include Alaska Native corporations and tribal organizations, healthcare systems and public health agencies, state and municipal government, political campaigns and ballot measure committees, advocacy and nonprofit organizations, energy and resource companies, tourism operators, financial institutions, and consumer brands operating in the Alaska market. We also partner with national research, consulting, and communications firms that need a credible Alaska partner to handle in-state fieldwork.
